Facebook changes its company name to Meta. The multinational company rebranded its name to Meta to differentiate itself from its social media platform. Facebook Inc is the name of the company that owns a platform including three of the most popular social media platform Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram in other to focus on building a more advanced technology world in the future known as Metaverse technology.
What Change Has Happened?
On the 28 of October, the CEO of the formerly called Facebook Inc Mark Zuckerberg address the attendees of the company annual connect conference about the future of Meta becoming a visual world where we can connect with people, build businesses and join the community as though we are present together which is the main aim of the company turning into a Metaverse. In his statement, he said, “Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can’t possibly represent everything that we’re doing today, let alone in the future.”
It is one vital thing to know that Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, Oculus still go with their name. The change that has occurred is that Facebook Inc the parent company rebrands its name to Meta. Facebook changes its name in other to reflect its vision of bringing the Metaverse to life.
What is Metaverse Technology?
While addressing the attendees of the annual connect conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg made mention of the main reason while he started Facebook was to connect with friends back in high school through messaging. But now Meta is set to create a real-world where people can connect with themselves with a feeling like they are present together. Metaverse is a visual reality where people can communicate and interact like in the real world. The defining quality of the Metaverse is the feeling of presence. The Metaverse is going to be like a real-world where people can interact virtually.
Furthermore, the Metaverse is going to be a real visual world where people can do all things such as connect with friends, work, learn, create and play. Mark Zuckerberg in his statement said “in this future, you will be able to teleport instantly as a hologram to be at the office without a commute, at a concert with friends, or in your parent’s living room to catch up. In conclusion, the mission of Meta still remains the same which is to connect people and also develop technology around people.
